Pozzallo

A little about our town

Pozzallo is the only maritime city of the beautiful province of Ragusa. Vibrant and thriving all year round, it is perfect for visitors, not only in the summer months, but also for those seeking a little sunshine off season. It is situated less than 40km from Sicily’s southernmost tip and has been home to the area’s most important port for over 700 years. It is also a mere 90km across the Mediterranean from Malta, and multiple daily ferry and hydrofoil crossings are available between the two islands, making wonderful day trips possible.

Pozzallo’s Torre Cabrera was built in 1429 to protect the town from pirates who sailed the seas. The area around the tower is full of charm, a wonderful place to take a stroll, pause for an aperitivo or have dinner in one of the many wonderful restaurants along the way.

In summer, Pozzallo is a popular tourist resort. Visitors enjoy the town’s four Blue Flag beaches as well as its ideal location for exploring towns such as Modica, Ragusa, Syracusa and Noto.

Sagra del Pesce is a three day long celebration of seafood in Pozzallo which takes place in August and sees a pan, 4m in diameter, cooking up a feast of freshly caught delights for visitors to enjoy.

La festa della Madonna del Rosario di Pozzallo takes place in October and culminates in a striking procession through the town, in the evening light.
